Florida and Australia have the most beautiful coastal dune lakes in the world. A coastal dune lake is situated next to the ocean/Gulf and separated only a thin section of dune. It is generally both salt and fresh water and the lakes often break through the sand to allow fish in and out. Australia dune lakes are a bit larger, but no more beautiful than the dune lakes of Florida. The tea-colored water with natural tannins in the Florida and Australia dune lakes look similar; however, the color of the dune lakes in Australia comes from leaves of Eucalyptus trees.

Northwest Florida’s exclusive 30A area and Forster, Australia may be a half a world apart, but the two coastal communities share a rare and beautiful commonality: dune lakes.
